Neil deGrasse Tyson gives an entertaining speech on knowledge in this interview with Stephen Colbert. Tyson tells Colbert that it's always better to have knowledge than to remain ignorant. As an example, he says that if an individual had five years to live, they would probably want to know about it, so that they could live differently and try new things.
Tyson says that people who don't value science value ignorance, but he doesn't judge those individuals. He believes that the average person mistrusts science because they don't understand it. Colbert goes on to point out that most Americans only trust the kind of science that will prevent them from going bald.
Tyson says that simple equations which explain complex things are beautiful. These are the things in science which he values most.
