Astrophysicist and Director of Hayden Planetarium Neil deGrasse Tyson addresses the recent discussions on the possible privatization of outer space and its affect on the future of space exploration.
Specifically addressing recent comments by American Republican presidential nominee candidate Newt Gingrich, Neil deGrasse Tyson says the notion that private enterprise could lead to the future of space exploration is "delusional," as "private enterprise has never led large expensive, dangerous projects with unknown risks."
He also adds that you cannot create a capital market valuation of space activity due to an inordinate number of variables, so private enterprise could not lead us to the Mars. Instead, Neil deGrasse Tyson asserts that the private sector can play a role in our low-earth orbit activities, due to the fact tourism could sustain it.
