To prove his point in the meaningful jobs keynote, Negroponte uses an example of those who graduated 25 years ago and leaped into the job market becoming successful investment bankers and CEOs. He talks about how they lead perfect lives with everything most people strive for: kids, house, career and now a comfortable retirement.
"They've just retired and you meet them at a cocktail party. What do they tell you about? They tell you about the Peace Corps years and what they did in the Peace Corp," says Negroponte.
Negroponte makes this point to hone in on the fact that the graduating generation has the possibility to have meaningful lives and mix market with mission -- it no longer needs to be a choice of either or like it used to be.
