Kitra Cahana

Kitra Cahana's keynote career explores the same social, anthropological and spiritual themes that are depicted in her work as a documentary and fine art photographer. In terms of education, Cahana studied philosophy at McGill University, where she obtained her BA. She went on to pursue her MA in Visual and Media Anthropology from Berlin's Freie Universitat. Currently, she works as a contributing photographer for National Geographic Magazine.

Cahana's work as a documentary photographer has taken her around the world. She has integrated herself into various communities, often for great lengths of time, in order to learn the language of her subjects well enough to communicate. One of her exciting projects had her following a group of nomadic youth across the USA. As a fine art photographer, Cahana focuses on themes of the body and spirituality, a topic which was inspired by her father becoming a quadriplegic.

Over the course of her career, Cahana has received recognition through grants and awards. This includes, but is not limited to, winning a 2014 TED fellowship and the 2013 International Center of Photography's Young Photographer Award.
