Stanley Alpert earned his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He works as an environmental and commercial litigation lawyer in the state of New York. After being kidnapped on his 38th birthday, Alpert authored 'The Birthday Party: A Memoir of Survival.'
Alpert recounts the experience of being kidnapped. Those who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorders experience a lack of control, which can become very painful. To maintain his psychological well-being, Alpert reflected on the empowering aspects of being kidnapped. The sense of community and the love and support enabled his stress levels to decrease. Also, the power of the law and justice being rightfully served allowed for some mental peace.
Alpert then considers why bad things happen to good people and what action can be taken when this occurs. To adapt, he chose to make the situation a positive one. With a purposeful focus, Albert wrote his memoir as a purging of events.
