Tal Ben-Shahar, Positive Psychology lecturer at Harvard University, asks if Facebook is making us sad. Ben-Shahar believes that we are hurting our potential for growth when we are revealing everything to the world. In modern society, individuals are obsessed with over-sharing their lives on a variety of social networks, losing a sense of privacy.
Despite these views, the psychology expert reveals that social networks have their benefits, a major one includes reconnecting with lost relationships. When individuals obsess over other people’s perceptions of their Facebook profiles, sites or blogs, they lose sight of priorities often failing to take time and reflect on the direction of their lives.
Tal Ben-Shahar goes on to explain how an announcement of high expectations for achievement often leads to feelings of disappointment, where as realistic and reflective expectations lead to true happiness.
