Auma Obama's philanthropy speech aims to change the way that people think about need and poverty. Obama claims that many people associate negativity with philanthropy, and she points out why this is wrong. She tells her audience about young people who have farm land, but make no use of it. They have seemingly given up, because they view themselves as failures.
Her speech focuses on Africa. She also points out that African people in need are not helpless. Obama believes that instead of relying on other countries and other people for help, individuals should change their own mindsets, work hard and create a sense of self worth.
Obama created a foundation called 'Sauti Kuu' back in 2011. Sauti Kuu means powerful voices. This foundation focuses on helping disadvantaged kids in Africa.
