In this business philanthropy keynote, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg discusses the strategies she believes modern philanthropists need to be approaching today's conflicts in very different ways. She believes that the world needs to be more hard-headed when it comes to philanthropy.
The most successful businesses in the world today do three things better than their competitors. The first is that they focus on the most critical problems; the second is that they find systemic solutions and the third, the build core competence.
She goes on to discuss the importance of prioritization is business and how it can be similarly used in philanthropy. There are so many good causes, but the truly great businesses only focus on the things at the top of the list. She believes that it is time for the world to recognize the difference between charity and philanthropy. Once this is done, efforts can be delegated more appropriately and challenges tackled more efficiently.
