Gus Speth discusses the way in which certain lifestyles impact the environment in this environmental change speech. Speth discusses things that citizens don’t think about that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and suggests that changing politics is key to changing environmental policies.
Speth says that even though he drives a hybrid and recycles, he hasn’t greatly reduced his environmental footprint. He explains that he eats out a lot, which negatively effects the environment because restaurants use up a lot of power, meat production contributes considerably to greenhouse gas emissions and a lot of water is used to make things like hamburgers and pots of coffee.
Gus Speth believes that since politicians have the power to change environmental policy, it’s important to put pressure on the government to take more serious steps in improving the quality of the environment.
