The Dave Eggers keynotes enlighten audiences about his journey from writer to education centre founder.
Due to unfortunate family circumstances, Eggers could not complete his degree in journalism at the University of Illinois. As he was forced to move elsewhere to care for his brother, he began a career in freelance graphic design. He and his friend took over a free newspaper called Cups. The newspaper evolved over the years to be satirical publication called Might. When he founded Might he became the editor of Salon.com. It was around this time that he wrote A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, which won a Pulitzer Prize in the Non-Fiction genre. Eggers has since written numerous other titles. He then founded both McSweeney's, an independent publishing house and 826 Valencia, a non profit tutoring and writing centre for kids.
By tracing his own career steps, the Dave Eggers keynotes motivate others to engage with the school system and contribute what they can to improve education of children everywhere.
