Daniel Okrent

Daniel Okrent's keynotes discuss the importance of media and his takeaways from the trade. Formerly the Public Editor of the New York Times, Okrent has been at the forefront of media. As a former journalist, the editor brought a personalized understanding to his post at the New York Times. His job there was to ensure that quality and procedures were followed.

A graduate from the University of Michigan, Okrent began his career in journalism at the Michigan Daily. He also worked as an editor at Esquire Magazine, New England Monthly and Time Magazine among others. He authored 'Great Fortune: The Epic of Rockefeller Center,' which was published in 2003. Also in 2003, he was brought on board with the New York Times, a position he held until late 2005.

One of the most famous things Okrent is known for is his "law." This idea of his goes by "the pursuit of balance can create imbalance because sometimes something is true" -- indicating that often the press has to pick a side and will sometimes be punished for it.
