Shigeru Ban

Shigeru Ban is a popular architect who has given speeches on his impressive paper emergency shelters. Ban attended the Southern California Institute of Architecture, as well as Cooper Union's School of Architecture.

Ban has been building structures with paper tubes since the mid-eighties. He believes that it's important to consider sustainability when creating a building. These structures are made with recyclable materials, and are fairly durable. Ban is well known for creating emergency shelters. He made shelters for Rwandan refugees in the early nineties, and went on to make shelters in Japan, after a large earthquake hit.

Ban likes to design architecture for the poor. He has little interest in creating structures for the privileged.
