Investing in Women’s Health

Paula Johnson discusses the need for more focus on women in her women’s healthcare keynote. A Women’s Health professor and director of the Connor’s Center for Women’s Health, Johnson emphasizes the need to acknowledge that sex profoundly affects how a body works and how disease presents itself. Johnson explains how conditions like depression, cardiovascular ailments and even cancer present differently in women than in men, thus women’s health must be treated and inspected differently than men’s. Medication also may work differently for men than in women.

Johnson’s women’s healthcare keynote emphasizes the need for extensive research and focus on women’s health and female-focused medicine and treatment. For Johnson, it is imperative that society develop a different model of healthcare for women, in order to sure they get optimum care and treatment.
