In Andy Puddicombe's thoughtless mind meditation keynote, he makes a case for the importance of freeing our mind from the daily stresses by slowing it down and practicing 10 minutes of mindlessness.
In this address, Puddicombe reveals that he spent some time studying meditation techniques as a monk in the Himalayas. While there, he realized the importance of appreciating and being in the present moment. Far too often, he says, our minds race like a washing machine turning over the laundry of our thoughts. He says mind maintenance is more important than many of the maintenance activities we carry out on a daily basis, yet most of us dedicate little or no time to it.
He points to a Harvard study that says our minds are lost in thought 47% of the time and draws a line between mindlessness and being lost in thought. While they may sound similar, they are actually completely opposite mind states.
