Putting Women in Power

Sandi Toksvig, a Danish broadcast personality, author and politician, has noticed a damaging lack of female representation throughout her life, which she considers throughout her talk on women's equality.

She highlights how little value female athletes are given, how few are represented in the STEM community and even how they're not even included in a typical representation of evolution. As she says, there's not a single country in the world where women have achieved total equality to men.

Being a gay woman, Sandi Toksvig has faced additional obstacles in her life, however she says that campaigning for these rights helped her to set more goals for herself. When looking to women in positions in power, she considered the statistics regarding who was in charge of companies -- revealing an astronomical disparity.

She says it's important to consider these numbers in her talk on women's equality, as it's unlikely that the wage gap will ever disappear unless there's more women in position of power. It's because of these reasons that Sandi Toksvig helped to start the Women's Equality Party in Britain.

She hopes that others take steps to do this as well, in order to ensure that the female perspective isn't overlooked when it comes to laws, which will in turn lead to positive change and eventual true equality.
