The TEDxWoodbridgeHigh event surrounded a theme of diversity, and Katie Kim's talk on the queer perspective allowed her to open up to her audience about some of the conversations she's had to have with her loved ones regarding her sexuality.
She starts out by explaining the conversation that she had with her mother, who didn't react how she had hoped when Kim came out to her. Although this rejection caused some strife between Kim and her mother, she eventually learned to accept that her opinions were formed by her conservative upbringing and a lack of exposure.
By considering various points of view in her talk on the queer perspective, Kim shows that differing opinions aren't something to be afraid of, but rather taken advantage of to start conversations and learn from one another.
