In Her Talk on Human Rights, Stacy Schaffer Considers Advocacy
Riley von Niessen — June 7, 2017 — Keynote Trends
Stacy Schaffer, the founder of 31:8 Project, an organization that campaigns against human trafficking, shows the importance of using one's privileged and voice to speak up for those who are tragically marginalized throughout her talk on human rights.
She says that one of the best ways to put an end to human trafficking is to educate people on it, so that they can get a better understanding of the need to keep fighting against this form of slavery, and spot those who continue to be affected by it. As human trafficking can refer to both sexual exploitation and forced labor, victims can have their freedom taken away for a wide variety of purposes. In addition, Schaffer highlights that it's present in all cultures, among all age groups, and genders.
By showing the prevalence of human trafficking, Schaffer's talk on human rights shows the importance of preventing so many innocent people from losing their freedom to it. In addition, she goes over some of the warning signs that one can spot, so that they can report details to the human trafficking hotline or local law enforcement and help to save lives.
