Ashley Murphy's Speech on HIV on Self-Acceptance and Being Extraordinary
Alyson Wyers — July 3, 2015 — Keynote Trends
In her speech on HIV, Ashley Murphy explains how to be extraordinary. The teenager and student is HIV positive and shares her story in an effort to encourage others to use their voice.
Instead of trying to fit in, the speaker says "don't be normal, because normal is boring." She says everyone has experienced some sort of burden, which makes everyone different. Part of being extraordinary is learning to be accepting of yourself. The speech on HIV says the keys to doing this are finding yourself, finding your community and finding your voice. This will require you to challenge assumptions people make about you as well.
The speaker also states education is the key to fighting stigma. Therefore, using your voice is also about raising awareness and being an activist.
