Michio Kaku's Space Elevator Speech on Future Innovations
Lacey-Jane Walsh — August 15, 2013 — Keynote Trends
Speaker Michio Kaku examines thrilling future technology in this space elevator speech. Kaku says that it is possible to build an elevator that goes into space, but claims that mankind is probably 100 years away from developing a way to do this. He examines problems with this exciting idea in this short presentation.
Kaku says that in order to create a space elevator, a material stronger than steel is needed. That material now exists. Creating a giant carbon nanotube elevator to space could work, but it takes a long time to create a small carbon nanotube, which presents a problem.
Kaku also discusses concerns about how the space elevator would hold up against natural disasters, such as hurricanes or tsunamis.
