Roger Martin is an award-winning author of two books and currently serves as the Dean of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. In this business innovation-oriented speech, Roger Martin discusses why so many of today's businesses and organizations are failing to innovate and generate breakthrough ideas. He identifies two words as the root of this problem, namely 'prove' and 'it.' Martin insists that too many companies, businesses and organizations today rely on deductive and inductive logic when devising new strategies. Roger Martin believes that the notion of making decisions solely based on preceding experience and results will stunt innovation and creativity.
Instead, Roger Martin proposes a third type of logic, which he refers to as 'abductive' logic. He explains that today's leaders must be comfortable with taking risks and logical leaps if they are to produce any new ideas.
