Rodney Brooks discusses the importance of having robotic assistance in the workplace in his robotic keynote. Brooks believes that people will come to heavily rely on robots both at work and at home. Robots can work along side humans and assist with repetitive and draining tasks that people were previously expected to perform.
Brooks touches on the fear some people have of being replaced by robots in the workplace and stresses that they won't replace people, they'll simply improve the way work tasks are performed, making things more efficient and enjoyable for all employees.
During his keynote Brooks introduces viewers to a robot named Baxter who has eyes that move and arms that respond to touch. These robots have already been placed in certain workplaces and the employees have found them to be extremely helpful.
