John Hagel's Machine Keynote Discusses Job Competitiveness with Robots
Kyle Towers — April 10, 2013 — Keynote Trends
This machine keynote by John Hagel discusses the growing battle between man and machine for jobs. As technology continues to advance, more and more jobs are being replaced by robots and machines.
Hagel says that because machines are advancing at such a rapid rate and are increasingly becoming inexpensive, jobs that were once thought of as irreplaceable can now be done by robots. This issue has arisen because of the way businesses have defined work processes. They have made positions that are tightly scripted and standardized, which machines are much more efficient at following through with.
The keynote points out that it's critical for people in the workplace to take more initiative upon themselves and introduce more creativity to make sure they aren't replaceable. The technology speech is wrapped up with Hagel stating, "rather than race against the machine, we need to race with the machine."
