In his purpose speech, Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg inspires the graduating class of 2017 at Harvard University. After acknowledging the new college graduates had accomplished something he never had -- finishing his degree at Harvard University -- the commencement speaker goes on to state that having a purpose isn't enough. The real challenge for millennials is to create a world where everybody has a sense of purpose.
The Mark Zuckerberg Harvard commencement speech defines purpose as the feeling that you are a part of something bigger than yourself, when you feel needed and have something ahead of you to work towards. He believes purpose "creates true happiness." Where as previous generations received their purpose from their job, church or community, today there is a generational need to create new jobs as well as a renewed sense of purpose for ourselves and others.
The purpose speech discusses three ways to create a world where everyone has a sense of purpose: pursue meaningful projects together, ensure equality for all and build community.
