In her presentation on innovation, Anja-Karina Pahl explains how her quest for a unifying language helped her discover the seven common steps all human beings take in their minds whenever they make, create, produce or innovate. This fundamental pattern led to her creation of the Map of Innovation: an eye-shaped model that mimics human development.
However, these steps are not consciously taken. Being aware of them will help people innovate better and faster. In an effort to show that innovation is not about overnight success, but rather a process of learning, she explains all seven of the steps as well as seven contradictions.
The steps listed in the presentation on innovation are generosity, discipline, patience, diligence (the stereotypical step of idea generation or brainstorming), meditation or concentration, wisdom and skill. Each step builds on the next.
