In her passion talk, Terri Trespicio explains why people need to stop searching for their passions. The branding strategist states it is a dangerously limiting belief to think you have one singular passion, it's your job to pursue it to the exclusion of all else, everything will work out if you do and you fail if you don't.
This elitist "forceful cultural imperative" is problematic because passion is not a plan, it's a feeling. The passion talk encourages people to take action and simply accept full time work because success is fuelled by passion and not the other way around. Having tunnel vision and obsessing over what your passion is can lead to missed opportunities. Instead, the speaker suggests not waiting and spending time and attention on solving your favorite problems. Looking for problems that need solving, being helpful and generous is often the way to find your passion. Essentially, "you don't follow your passion, your passion follows you."
