Paolo Cardini is a designer and in his multitasking keynote he introduces the concept of 'monotasking.' As Cardini reminds the audience, people in the developed world are attempting to tackle too many tasks at once. From cooking to texting to talking on the phone and checking notifications on different social media networks, hardly any activities receive anyone's undivided attention anymore. Cardini shares the statistic that only two percent of people today are able to excel in a multitasking environment.
Cardini's monotasking concept focuses on breaking down society's technologies such as smartphones to perform only one task. Cell phones, tablets, laptops and other devices are what enables people to engage in multitasking behaviors. He believes that by stripping devices of all but their essential capabilities can actually help people focus on the task at hand. His multitasking keynote also shares different designs of devices that only serve one function.
