In her memory speech Maria Konnikova warns society of the risks of our reliance on the Internet, specifically Google. She brings up a recent study where members who knew they could use Google at a later date for information, were more forgetful than those who weren't told so. This proves that people are not implanting information into their brains, but instead relying on the Internet's database.
Her memory speech goes on to say that we can flip this to work in our benefit as long as we are conscious of this occurrence. We need to decide on the information we think is important and can't rely on a computer for in everyday life and be sure to make them a part of our memory.
