Speaker Matt Bai encourages civics teachers to focus more time on media in this media literacy course. Bai claims that people are constantly surrounded by media, so it only makes sense to teach them about it, and to explain what they should expect from it.
Bai believes that school curriculum needs to change to keep up with society. He says that for the most part, schools are teaching the same things they taught 40 years ago, despite the fact that the world has dramatically changed since then.
Bai describes the media environment as being confusing, and believes that media literacy should be covered in civics classes. He states that instead of talking about the revolutionary war six times, maybe teachers could incorporate more media talk in their classrooms.
