Stephen Colbert talks to Google's Eric Schmidt about American politicians in this American politics speech. Colbert was invited to do a Google Talk to discuss his best seller 'America Again: Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't.' Colbert discusses his show, the state that America is in and the way in which he and comedic counterpart Jon Stewart have seemingly replaced news networks in terms of reporting on politics.
Colbert acknowledges that the Colbert Report and The Daily Show have certainly become popular and perhaps more well liked than actual news stations, but disagrees with Schmidt in regards to his show replacing news networks entirely. Colbert is a comedian first and foremost. His show focuses on politics but he assures Schmidt that viewers are actively watching the news which is why his commentary on these stories interests people. Without news networks Colbert believes that his jokes would go over the head of his audience, meaning that news is still very necessary.
Colbert praises the second amendment, freedom of speech, which allowed for him to write his book criticizing the American government and the political system.
