Luke Syson Talks About Art Appreciation in His Loving Art Speech
Tiffany — February 15, 2014 — Keynote Trends
Luke Syson's loving art speech talks about his newly inherited ceramics collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, telling the audience of his initial disdain towards these seemingly "useless" pieces. The Renaissance art curator had been curating paintings for over three years before he transitioned into managing a collection of candlesticks, vases and ceramics.
Syson talks about his former role as a curator, telling the audience of the significance and meaning of a painting -- taking one from one's own material world into a spiritual world. The job of a painter was to paint everything that was visible and invisible in the universe, and the result is a picture or a physical manifestation of the human soul and the opportunity to view a universe that is more perfect than one's own.
To Syson, the collection of porcelain and ceramics were useless, but gradually grew an appreciation towards the meticulous effort and attention to detail the artist had to create a vase, for example.
