The Future of Hardware Openness

Frank Frankovsky, Facebook's VP of Hardware Design and Supply Chain, presents a hardware industry keynote, discussing the benefits of openness on the web. He begins his speech by reviewing the entrenched resistance that exists within the hardware business to share ideas with other companies and firms. There is a huge capital expenditure within the industry that most aren't willing to give up. Openness, according to Frankovsky however, always wins in the end.

Today, there is now a dialogue surrounding the environmental impacts of the excess of hardware that exists. He believes that more openness in the hardware business can improve the likelihood of creating high quality devices better the first time, hence reducing waste.
