This employee speech by Jim Collins stresses the importance of having a team full of self-motivators. He explains that by possessing this asset, your job as a manager will be made significantly easier.
He begins by using a Sherlock Holmes story in which the victim’s dog didn’t bark at the killer. This led Sherlock to know that the killer had to have been friends with the dog and therefore the killer.
Jim applies this story to the business world in his employee speech by explaining that if you have employees that are self-motivated, they won’t bark. Even when times get tough, they will stay determined. This will result in needing very little effort from management.
