Making Foreign Familiar

In her educating urban youth talk, Angela Jackson explains the importance of exposing children in low income families to culture and languages. She believes they can be turned into global citizens if people who care about the future of the world think in innovative ways to expand their horizons and battle statistics.

This lead her to found the Global Language Project, an organization that teaches inner city kids new languages. This not only gives them a transferable skill, but the educational aspect also gives them an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty within their own communities.

Given the way the global economy is going, familiarizing foreign languages and cultures will be a decisive factor in the success of youth. The educating urban youth talk stresses the importance of having students be excited about new people and places, rather than afraid.
