The need for a restructuring of the sex education programs taught in schools and the promotion of open forums allowing people to comfortably and frankly ask questions about reproductive health is addressed in this Deb Levine keynote.
She founded the web-based advisory panel Internet Sexuality Information Services (ISIS) because she believes that the key to promoting awareness about safer sexual practices stems from having a comfortable, and sometimes anonymous, environment for discussion.
The speaker states that one in two young people will have an STD by age 25 and that one in five people in the United States will have contracted HIV and have no idea. These staggering statistics act as the basis for the speaker's argument that the school system needs to create programs which foster honest discussion in a comfortable setting to effectively promote the importance of safe sex.
