This business plan speech by Roger Martin gives the proper blueprints of running a business. He claims that successful businesses of today use this formula and it has got them to where they are.
Roger believes that organizations follow a knowledge funnel that contains three major stages of knowledge. It begins with a mystery that is turned into a heuristic, then an algorithm.
He breaks this down with how McDonald’s used the aforementioned plan. McDonald’s mystery was imagining people of California enjoying burgers. At this point it was just a hypothesis. It then evolved into the heuristic stage which was narrowed to an easy fast food menu that would get customers in and out quickly. The restaurant was started at this point and had success. Then McDonald’s created an exact formula algorithm which included precise cook times and ideal employee rosters.
