The keynotes by Thomas Goetz bring to light an overlooked solution to many of the problems now plaguing the doctor-patient relationship. Goetz believes that it is possible for patients to become far more empowered than they currently are. He supports the adoption of healthy lifestyles and a general awareness about medical issues, mitigating illness and the need for costly reform.
Goetz's compelling philosophies on medicine began in unrelated fields. He spent 15 years as a journalist, writing on the subjects of media and business for the Village Voice. His reporting career continued at the Wall Street Journal which eventually led him to a two year position with the Industry Standard.
The engaging and well-informed speeches delivered by Goetz are reflective of his current position as Executive Editor with Wired magazine. His coverage of science and health issues led him to pursue a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 2005. The exposure to subjects like global health and pharmaceuticals that he received there aided him in his 2012 authorship of his book 'The Decision Tree: Taking Control of Your Health in the New Era of Personalized Medicine.'
