Uzzell attended the Missouri Journalism School and started his career at National Geographic. He was the assistant to the editor. In 1975, he left the company to pursue his own passions and to acquire his own clients. He has received acclaim from the international community for his natural ability to capture the true beauty of the planet.

Uzzell has photographed two books: Maryland and The View From Sterling Bluff.
