Romeo Dallaire

Lieutenant-General Romeo Dallaire's keynotes address a very relevant and thought-provoking issue: international conflict. Development in third world nations is a pressing concern that is waiting to be conquered and which culminates in terrible disasters such as the Rwandan Genocide, which Dallaire was instrumental in assisting in.

His work in Rwanda and his ill-fated attempts through the United Nations to cease the conflict are widely renowned. Dallaire is a senior fellow at the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies and has been influential in humanitarian work worldwide. He is the author of the best selling novel 'Shake Hands with the Devil' on the subject of the Rwanda genocide and his personal experience with it.

Dallaire graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada in 1970 and joined the The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery. He held the post of Fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy out of Harvard University, taught at many Canadian and American schools on the subject of human rights and was a great advocate for veterans' mental health awareness.

For his service in Rwanda Dallaire holds a Legion of Merit, an Aegis Trust Award and is an officer of the Order of Canada.
