The Leymah Gbowee speeches are moving and captivating, as she explores her work as a Liberian peace and women’s rights activist. Gbowee is the executive Director of the Women’s Peace and Security Network (WIPSEN-Africa).
She achieved an associate’s degree from the Mother Patern College of Health Sciences in Liberia in 2001, and also completed a Master’s degree in Conflict Transformation at the East Mennonite University in Virginia, in 2007.
Gbowee served as a panelist at several conferences, including the ‘United Nations Security Council’s Arria Formula Meeting on Women, Peace & Security,’ and the ‘UNIFEM's Women and the Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration and Repatriation (DDRR) Process.’
She received several honors and awards, including the Blue Ribbon Peace Award in 2007, which was given to her by the Women's Leadership Board at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Other notable awards include the 2011 Noble Peace Prize and the 2009 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage award.
