Laurie Garrett

In her presentations, Laurie Garrett delivers substantive accounts of global health and disease related issues. As a Pulitzer-Prize winning expert on Global Health and Disease prevention, she has studied countless cases and written numerous books on these issues.

Garrett is the only person to have received a Pulitzer, Peabody and Polk prize in journalism. In terms of education, she holds an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz in biology and a Ph.D. in Bacteriology and Immunology from the University of California. It is here she began her first foray into journalism, working for the KPFA radio as a science news reporter. Currently, she is a Senior Fellow of the Global Health Program at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Garrett has written several books. These include 'The Coming Plague: Newly Emerging Diseases in a World Out of Balance' and 'Betrayal of Trust: The Collapse of Global Public Health.' In these books and her presentations, Laurie Garrett examines huge, daunting issues in health with the fine-comb mind of an academic and the articulation of world-class journalist.
