The concept of conscious capitalism is the focus of John Mackey's keynote speeches. Mackey is currently the CEO of Whole Foods, which he co-founded in 1980. This role has made Mackey a household name in the movement of organic food.
Mackey attended Trinity University, where he studied philosophy and religion, but did not graduate. His interest in organic and health foods began around this time when he worked at a vegetarian co-op. There, he met his first girlfriend and business partner named Renee Hardy, with whom he opened a health food store after dropping out of school. The store was called SaferWay and eventually merged with other health food stores in the area and became Whole Foods.
Mackey has been extremely successful in his career as of 2006, reduced his dollar to only one dollar a year. He is a dedicated philanthropist who donates large sums of money to charities that focus on animal welfare.
John Mackey's keynote speeches discuss the need for a new type of capitalism to govern the economy and world's markets to ensure sustainability for the future.
