The Fred D'Agostino talks on the purpose of higher education reflect his political science knowledge. The speaker received his BA from Amherst College, Masters from Princeton University and PhD from the London School of Economics. Following his studies from 1978 to 1984 he worked as a Philosophy Research Fellow at the Australian National University. From 1984 until 2004 he worked at the University of New England as an Associate Professor of Philosophy, Associate Dean of Arts, Head of the School of Social Science and Member of the University Council. He is currently employed at the University of Queensland as a professor in the humanities and social sciences faculty. He was also the Deputy President of the Academic Board.
As an editor he has experience at a number of academic journals. He is also the author of four books. His vast educational experience clearly influenced the content of his speeches.
