The keynotes by Elizabeth Murchison examine the plight of the Tasmanian devil, an issue she has studied and researched extensively.
As a Tasmania native, she could not sit back and watch the Tasmanian devils disappear as a result of a contagious cancer. She led an international team at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory to discover how to prevent this. She is currently a Junior Research Fellow at King's College at Cambridge. Murchison received several notable awards, with her latest being in 2012, the Eppendorf European Young Investigator of the Year.
The keynotes by Elizabeth Murchison bring to light a relatively unknown issue, demonstrating that it only takes the dedication of one to reverse the fate of an entire species.
