After graduating from the University of Arizona with a PhD in 1980, he worked as the chief assistant engineer at WBFO, a Buffalo-based radio station. He worked here until beginning his investigation into Markus Hess, at which point he became employed at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
