Bunker Roy

The Bunker Roy presentations provide lessons in benevolence. Although Roy grew up in a privileged environment, his focus upon the development of poor Indian demographics has been relentless. His belief in impoverished groupings has inspired many who wish to improve the regions socio-economic standing, especially where class is concerned.

Bunker is recognized as an activist and educator. His studies at Delhi's St. Stephen's College culminated in 1967 with his completion of an English master's degree. There he excelled in squash and eventually came to represent the sport as India's national champion.

Those who have flocked to Bunker Roy's presentations have often been most interested in his foundation of the Barefoot College. The Indian institution works solely with students who lack financial means with a specific emphasis upon employable skills like farming, weaving and sewing. His attention to disadvantaged citizens was applauded in 2000 by way of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership.
