Bryan Doerries

The healing power of theater is promoted in keynotes by Bryan Doerries. A student of the University of California, Irvine and Kenyon College he is committed to exploring the potential of present day lessons that can be learned from the revival of ancient texts and theater presentations.

His company, Outside the Wire, is a social outreach program that uses media in all forms to combat pressing public issues. Theater of War Productions, a subset of Outside the Wire, was developed by Doerries as a medium by which soldiers and military personnel could be exposed to the healing properties of theater and public presentations.

Parallels between Sophocles’ Ajax and Philoctetes and modern day warfare are brought to light in the productions and the keynotes by Bryan Doerries and the speaker exposes audiences to the power that communication through art can have to heal.
