Atul Gawande

Atul Gawande's speeches merge healthcare insight with the excessive benefits that come from simple human-orchestrated organization. His groundbreaking theories stem from his intensive academic history, initially completing his undergraduate degree at Stanford University in 1987. His status as a Rhodes Scholar led him to attain accreditation from Balliol College in 1989 where he majored in philosophy, politics and economics. Gawande eventually finished his studies at Harvard's Medical School where he received a Masters in Public Health.

Gawande presently works as a surgeon with Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He also maintains a variety of other positions, serving as a Professor of Surgery with Harvard's Medical School and as an Associate Professor with the Harvard School of Public Health. His in-depth research on the subjects of surgery and childbirth go hand in hand with his lead advisory role at the World Health Organization's Safe Surgery Saves Lives initiative. At the same time, his impressive communication skills have come to the fore via his post at the New Yorker, where he has been working since 1998 as a staff writer.
