Andre Dubus

Keynotes by Andre Dubus examine the nature of violence and the detrimental effects and consequences that are caused by its presence. Although Dubus believes on a spiritual level that violence is wrong, he still contends that there are certain situations that warrant its use. Most often recognized for his literary masterpiece 'House of Sand and Fog,' award-winning American novelist and writer Dubus uses his own experiences with violence to explain its effects and dominance.

Currently, Dubus is a member of the faculty at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, as well as a professor at Harvard and Emerson College. In terms of his education,Dubus earned his Bachelor's Degree in sociology from the University of Texas at Austin and began fiction writing months of graduation.

As a New York Times Bestseller and Oprah Book Club selected author, Dubus has written many works including 'Bluesman,' and 'Townie - A Memoir.' For his literary work, he was awarded with numerous awards including a 'Guggenheim Fellowship,' and 'The National Magazine Award for fiction.'
