The Alice Goffman talk on the criminal justice system discusses the need to put an end to mass incarceration in the United States. The speaker is currently an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she teaches classes on the future of social life, ethnographic writing and ethnography. She is also interested in topics such as communities and urban sociology, race and ethic studies and deviance, law and social control. At UW Madison, she is also affiliated with the Institute for Research on Poverty. She was educated at Princeton, receiving her doctorate degree in 2010.
As mentioned in the Alice Goffman talk, the sociologist's thesis paper became a dissertation and now a book. 'On the Run: Fugitive Life in an American City' was released in 2014.
