The social scientist currently works at the University of Oxford as the Director of the Refugees Studies Centre and Leopold Muller Professor in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies. At the university, he is also a Green-Templeton College fellow.
He studied at Durham University, receiving First Class Honours in Economics in his undergraduate degree, before earning a MSc at Bristol University in International Relations and a MPhil at Oxford in Development Studies. He went on to write an award-winning DPhil while working in Geneva at the UNHCR headquarters.
